what is the difference between f1 and f1b schnoodles?
F1b Schnoodle vs F1:
Our litters are both first generation F1 (schnauzer x poodle) and multi generation F1b (schnoodle x poodle or schnoodle x schnauzer) schnoodles.
Some people refer to or think of an F1b puppy with a schnoodle and poodle parents as 75% poodle and 25% schnauzer. (or vice versa with a schnoodle & schnauzer parent) But it's not scientifically or factually accurate. While each puppy inherits the same amount of DNA from both parents, the schnoodle doesn't pass on an exact percentage of poodle or schnauzer genes. What genes are expressed depends on whether they are recessive or dominant. This is why you will get traits (coat type, temperament, size) that are "throwbacks" to grandparents, some F1b puppies that are more like an F1 schnoodle with schnauzer traits, etc.
We choose to breed multigeneration schnoodle puppies to produce dogs with the most desirable traits in temperament, coat type, and health. This is the only breed we’ve been working with for almost two decades and our lines are important to us. If you choose an F1b schnoodle from us it will be no less a Schnoodle than one of our F1 pups. For either type of litter, we will gladly help you select a pup that meets your preferences for coat type and temperament

About the Sizes of our Schnoodles
Please note: Our dogs are not sold by the pound ;-)
-We note both the height (at the shoulder as is customary for dogs) and weight of our dogs in their physical description.
-The weight of a dog isn't an accurate description of size. Due to bone structure, muscling, portion of fat, etc. one dog can weigh more than another but take up less physical space.
-Size is the actual space the dog occupies (the height and length) not the weight. Some dogs can be the same height and length but vary in weight by 5 pounds or more.
Miniature Schnoodles:
Adult size between 12"-14" at the shoulder and 15 to 20 pounds. More specific variations based on the pups or parents size and build will be noted on the litter page and/or individual puppy listings. Sometimes we have pups that will be 11”-12” at the shoulder; they are still mini but on the smaller end of the range.
Moyen Schnoodles:
Adult size between 15"-17" at the shoulder and 18 to 25 pounds. More specific variations based on the pups or parents size and build will be noted on the litter page and/or individual puppy listings.
Standard Schnoodles:
Adult size between 18"-22" at the shoulder and 35-50 pounds.
AKC Poodle Size Standard: (note the 5 inch variation between sizes)
Standard Poodles: over 15 inches tall at the shoulder
Miniature Poodles: over 10 but under 15 inches
Toy Poodles: 10 inches or under.
Moyen, meaning "medium" in French, is a 4th size designation for poodles used in Europe that has now gained popular use in the US. This designation is: Over 15 inches tall at the shoulder but under 20 inches. It's to denote the size of poodle that is larger than miniature but smaller and more delicate in build than most standard poodles. It is not a size officially recognized by the AKC.
AKC Miniature Schnauzer Size Standard: (note only 3 inch variation)
From 12 to 14 inches at the shoulder (with females usually being shorter)
"He is sturdily built, nearly square in proportion of body length to height with plenty of bone, and without any suggestion of toyishness."
Disqualifications: Dogs or bitches under 12 inches or over 14 inches.
AKC does not recognize the toy sized schnauzers for showing, it is considered a fault.

What is a phantom?
Phantom is a poodle coat color with specific markings. They are two-toned in color (typically, black/silver, black/red). The coat is darker over most of the body with lighter markings at the following points: above each eye (eyebrows), sides of the muzzle or cheeks, across the chest, on the legs, and under the tail. The term “phantom” is used because the contrasting coloration will give an appearance of shadows on part of their body.
Phantom markings also resemble other breed coat patterns e.g. Doberman, Yorkie, Schnauzer, etc. (There are phantom Schnauzers also but like many current coat colors for the breed, it’s not an official or showable color) When we get phantom pattern Schnoodles it can be a combination of genetics coming from both the schnauzer and the poodle. They are not as common or easy to produce in Schnoodles. Because Schnoodles are a mixed breed, some may have imperfect phantom markings. (missing some of the areas or less defined.)

are schnoodles non-shedding?
Yes, they are a non-shedding coat type. Both schnauzers and poodles are considered non-shedding breeds. They do have an undercoat that must be brushed regularly and require grooming like most dogs. When puppies are young, they must grow-in an adult coat and at this time they will shed-out their puppy coat. The coat has to be brushed out rather falling out on its own. Electric clippers are a must for keeping the coat groomed; this is best done by a professional groomer.
Most of our schnoodles have a long, loose, soft and curly coat typical of poodles. Some will have a slightly shorter medium length coat with some coarser, wiry hair. These pups require less grooming and brushing but still have a cute “scruffy” look and wave to their coat.
(It should be noted that if only one parent/breed is non-shedding, there is no guarantee of a non-shedding pup.)

Are schnoodles Hypoallergenic?
Schnoodles are well tolerated by persons with allergies. My daughter is allergic to other dogs and has asthma, as do I, and we are fine with either breed. Many families with members having allergies have adopted pups from us. It is generally the dander that causes problems for those with allergies. Go to this link for more information. http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=2+1278&aid=145
As far as any potential pet allergy is concerned, depending on symptoms or whether it has been diagnosed, the best course of action may be to consult with an allergist/immunologist. They can test and accurately diagnose any allergies, offer advice on potential treatment options and ways of coping. Immunotherapy is effective for many people; my daughter receives it for her many allergies. Dogs can have pollen or other materials in/on their fur from outside allergens; a reaction may be caused by these or the dog's dander. Thus, it can be hard to make an accurate determination when simply interacting with a dog(s). See: http://www.aaaai.org/conditions-and-treatments/allergies/Pet-Allergy.aspx

Is there a health guarantee offered for your pups?
Yes, please see our contract if you would like more information. We offer a 1-year health guarantee.

Do you require spay/neuter of all puppies?
Yes, mandatory spaying or neutering, at the appropriate age, is part of the contract. This is for the benefit of their overall health and behavior. We do not sell pups with breeding rights or for breeding purposes.
Have the puppies been vaccinated and de-wormed?
They are de-wormed at 2,4,6 and 8 weeks of age and had their first puppy vaccination at 6 weeks. All health care is kept up-to-date. When you adopt a pup, a detailed health records form will be provided.
At what age do you allow your puppies to go to their new homes?
The earliest is at 8 weeks old. Most of our puppies go to their new families between 8-12 weeks. It’s important for their overall health and well-being to remain with littermates until 8 weeks of age or older. Many states have regulations against re-homing a pup before 8 weeks of age for this reason. Our puppies are weaned at about 4 weeks of age and begin the separation from their mother. We prepare the pups for the transition to a new home. Their new families will also be given important care guidelines.
Are the puppies house-broken and/or crate-trained?
All our pups are crate and housetrained to an age-appropriate level. We start crate training after they are weaned and begin house training shortly thereafter. Our goal is to adopt puppies that are well on their way to being house-trained. When they go home, pups will be able to hold it overnight in their crate. When you adopt a pup, you will receive information on how to continue house and crate training.
Where are the parent dogs and puppies kept?
All of our dogs and puppies are kept in our home. They are raised underfoot. We spend many hours each day with our dogs and puppies. It takes a lot of time to properly care for and train new pups. Puppies should be raised in the house until they are ready to leave for their new homes. A puppy kept outside in a kennel will not have had the appropriate social stimulation and interaction with people. By living in a home they are introduced to children and other people, other animals like cats, and everyday household happenings such as washing machines, vacuum cleaners, riding in the car, etc.
Do your puppies come with registration "papers"?
We do not register our pups. Schnoodles are still considered a mix-breed and cannot be registered with the AKC at this time. A registry is not a guarantee of the quality, health or care given to the puppy. The purpose of the registry is to keep records of sires, dams etc for a fee; this is most relevant to showing and those seeking to purchase a dog for breeding/showing purposes. We offer our pups to pet homes only and have a spay-neuter clause in our contract. A registration would be superfluous and serve to add additional registration fees for those adopting.
What are your schnoodle’s temperaments like?
We strive to produce healthy, well socialized puppies with excellent temperaments suitable for families with children. We own all of our studs and bitches. Our parent dogs are AKC registered, some with champion lines. We have bred and/or raised most of our parent dogs, some for multiple generations; we are confident in their health and temperament.
What makes up the characteristics of a dog; the genetics from each parent which includes temperament and physical attributes, training, socialization and what a dog is fed. Training and socialization are equally as important as genetic factors in determining the temperament and behavior of a dog.
Our pup’s personalities will be a combination of both breeds or lean more to one breed or the other. Miniature schnauzers and poodles have breed standards which define their traits. See the pages on our website about both breeds and schnoodles.
So far, we have not had a client that was dis-satisfied with the temperament of the pup they chose. All our pups are playful, active (schnoodles are a medium activity level dog) and affectionate. Any of our puppies will make a good family pet. Many clients have trained their pups for use as therapy dogs and some for agility. Schnoodles are not a particularly dominate breed; even the most dominate pup within a litter is not very dominate compared to another breed. If you properly train and socialize your pup, a schnoodle will happily embrace you as the "pack leader". We socialize our puppies and raise them in our home around other dogs and cats.
“There is no such thing as a problem breed. However, there is no shortage of 'problem owners'....”
“The most important thing that we have to provide every day is that we are the pack leader, that we set the rules, the boundaries and the limitations, and then we love. Most of the people, they go to get a dog because they need somebody to love. So they are going after what they need, not what the dog needs. And that, to me, creates instability immediately, and the dog sees the human as a soft energy. So they don’t follow the lovable leader or a spiritual leader; they follow a dominant one.”

Do you ship puppies via flight nanny, cargo, or ground transport?
No, but we can drive to meet you…
We can drive for a face-to-face meetup/delivery for a fee to save driving time. We typically meet at a Cracker Barrel as they are family-friendly, have a public restroom, and are near exits. Locales include Greenville SC, Columbia SC, Triangle Area NC, Asheville NC, and Hickory NC. If you are interested, please inquire about costs and locations.
Most of our puppies are adopted by families within driving distance. (Nearby states such as VA, GA, MD, DC, SC, TN, etc.) Many families from great distances have flown to us pick up their pups or have made an extended car trip. (We have had families come from Texas, Arizona, Illinois, New York, Massachusetts…)
You can fly to us and the puppy can travel on board the plane with you under the seat. Most airlines charge around $125 one way for your pet and may require a health certificate. We can meet you at the airports in Charlotte, Greensboro or Raleigh. (You may also travel to our home if you prefer.)
The cost to fly to get your pet is comparable to having it shipped cargo or paying a flight nanny. You can fly to pick up your pup and return in one day. The health and comfort of your pup has immeasurable value vs. one day's inconvenience to you. Puppies fly very well; they don’t cry or fuss like human infants. In our info, we provide tips on traveling via air with your puppy.
Many passenger flights do not take dogs as cargo. A trip that is one-way for a passenger can be extended or involve multiple layovers for a puppy traveling cargo. There is a great deal of discomfort involved for the pup and they are at risk of disease exposure or accidental death.
We’ve been apprehensive about working with a flight nanny due to the general lack of transparency involved in the process and the fluctuations in itinerary.

why microchip?
Microchipping provides proof of ownership and the ability for a lost pet reunification from the moment your puppy goes home with you. Most vets use a larger/standard-size microchip & needle; they will wait to microchip at spay or neuter. We use a mini microchip & needle (smaller than standard, meant for smaller dogs/cats, etc) which is nicer for the smaller dogs. Our choice of a registry is no-cost so renewal fees won't prevent your information from being shared. Information on microchipping: Microchipping
What are your accepted payment methods?
We accept the following forms of payment: cash (bills) or PayPal. Methods of Payment via PayPal include: Venmo, credit/debit card, Paypal balance, or options like "Pay in 4" that they offer. Any payment via Paypal does have a 5% fee due to our having a business account, which always takes one.
Please note that you do not need a paypal account to make a payment with paypal. We don't receive any of your financial info & it's very secure. This is not a reflection of the value or quality of a particular pup or litter; it’s intended as an incentive to increase the likelihood of a very deserving pup finding a new family in the near future. It’s not uncommon for us to reject multiple applications on the same pup. If any of our pups are still with us, it’s because we haven’t found a suitable home, not due to lack of interest.
Otherwise, our adoption fees are non-negotiable. We invest a great deal of time and expense in raising our pups and it shows. They have bright eyes, healthy coats, and excellent temperaments…this is not by accident. I have bred and/or raised most of our parent dogs, some for multiple generations; we are confident in their health and temperament. Our pups receive premium food, health care, socialization and training. During whelping season I forgo sleep and make sure that they are taken care of. Additionally, my experience and education gives me knowledge and expertise that enriches our pups' overall wellbeing. (See About Us page for more details)
